When one thinks of Geylang and Joo Chiat, I’m pretty sure ‘frog porridge’ is the first thing that one can think of! But what more can this heritage-rich area offer besides this exotic delicacy?
You’ll be surprised at what you’ll find here!

If you love antiques and wish to know more about the Peranakan Nyonya kueh or beadwork & embroidery, book a visit to The Intan, located at 69 Joo Chiat Terrace. You can also use up your SingapoRediscover vouchers!
Another culture that’s synonymous with Geylang and Joo Chiat is the Malay culture. At Geylang Serai Market, not only can you get fresh produce at the wet market on the first floor, but you can also find a variety of traditional Malay food at the hawker centre located on the upper floor.

From Nasi Rawon, Lontong to Mee Soto, all your favourite Malay cuisines can be found there. You can also shop for traditional Malay outfit at the stalls located beside the hawker centre, located minutes away from Paya Lebar MRT station.
What’s interesting is that the architecture of this market looks like a typical ‘kampong’, a traditional Malay village.
If you need a weekly dose of retail therapy, this area is the place you should live in. Once you exit Paya Lebar MRT station, you’ll be greeted with not one, not two, but three shopping centres! Namely PLQ Mall, Paya Lebar Square and Singpost Centre.

And if you walk a little bit further, you’ll see KINEX, City Plaza, Tanjong Katong Complex and Joo Chiat Complex. A total of SEVEN malls for you to choose from!
No more “where to eat at Joo Chiat” or “what to do at Geylang” because you have so many choices!
A trip to Geylang isn’t complete without durians! Along the stretch of Geylang Road and Sims Avenue, you’ll find plenty of stalls selling this aromatic king of fruit loathed by many!

Just take your pick and the friendly durian seller will serve you these custardy sweet treats.
Don’t be surprised if you chance upon a door which says ‘Cove’ while you’re durian hunting! That’s actually Cove’s flagship co-living building!
We hope you get to visit these places the next time you head down to Geylang or Joo Chiat. Remember to take lots of photos and tag us at #CoveySG!
