It's Mother's Day, let's celebrate the wonderful and important ladies who raised us.

Meet the mothers of Cove!

This Mother’s Day, I’d like to introduce to you the hard working mothers in our humble office who have been working tirelessly for their kids at home, while also providing you the best homes Cove can offer.


Let’s celebrate these wonderful ladies - Del, Evangeline, Renee and Sophie! Amongst them, they have a combined experience of 24 years being a mom! 


Can you guess who amongst them is the most experienced mother?


It’s Del! Del is a proud mom to 3 adorable boys (which she refers to as this emoji - 🐒, LOL) namely Dayyan (11), Ayden (10) and Eilshan (4).


After a day at work, our Accounts & Admin in-charge here juggles between handling school-related stuff and assisting in their homework and revision for her sons. It seems like a mother’s work day never ends. 🥱


Despite a very hectic schedule, Del looks forward to seeing and spending time with her sons every single day. When she’s in the office and misses her kids, she’d think of all the quality time they’ve spent together and just look forward to the weekend!


Isn’t that all of us when we dread work sometimes? 😜


When asked what’s her advice for other mothers out there, Del shared that mothers have to remind themselves that they work for the betterment of their family and children. Both family/children’s needs and work are equally important so you need to know how to find the perfect balance in between. 


As for Del’s teammate, Renee, she constantly reminds herself that her son is safe whenever she misses her son while she’s at work.


“I will stop for a few seconds and remind myself that he is safe and being cared for and I will see him soon,” shared our Accounts and Administration Manager.


She also mentioned that support and understanding from her spouse is crucial to balance motherhood and career. It makes dual responsibility much easier for both of them.

Both her husband and herself ensure that they spend their Sundays together with Reinaldo, who is 5 years old this year.


Her advice to other moms? There is no other gift in the world that is more special than motherhood itself! Aww…😍


Since all of us are still working from home most of the time, this means there are more pockets of time for Evangeline to be with her kids, Elijah (5) and Ezekiel (3).


“Work from home arrangement has proven to be pretty good as I'm able to see and spend a bit more time with them on days I do not have to commute to work/external meetings.”


We’re so thankful that technology allows us to work remotely despite the pandemic! 💻 Coincidentally, it also allows us to have more quality time with our friends and family.

But, Evangeline also highlighted the dangers of technology that her kids are exposed to.


According to our Head of Investments, kids nowadays are more susceptible to undesirable language, behaviour and traits just by watching or listening to things over the internet. Parents have to be extra wary regarding this and have to monitor their kids closely.


Thankfully, Evangeline has the help of her mom who can oversee her kids when she’s busy at work.


Mothers themselves also can’t escape from the dangers of technology. On social media, there are tonnes of motherhood tips and advice on social media but not all of that will apply to every mother. 


“Know that every mom is doing their best for their kids and what works for some doesn't necessarily apply for all. So, trust that you are doing your best for the kids, and don't be so harsh on yourself. It's challenging, but take time out to care for yourself so that you can care better for others!”


Very wise advice from a mother with 6 years of motherhood experience. Evangeline is also expecting her third child this coming August, so congratulations are on the way!


As for our co-founder, Sophie, spending time with her little one actually helps her to take a real mental break from work. In return, she finds herself being more productive and focused at work.


“It's also absolutely critical that you have the right support networks around and of course if you co-parent that you have a partner who shares the load in a way that is fair and works for you both,” she added.


Like other mothers, Sophie too suffers from ‘mom’s guilt’ when she feels like she should be spending time with her 18-month old son, Ollie, instead of working.


“I think it's important as mums that we maintain perspective - I don't think there is anyone who finds it easy so you have to try not to be too hard on yourself and just put your energy into making sure the time you do spend with your family is quality time.”


Sophie would also like to wish ‘well done!’ to all the supermamas out there who have been working so hard in nurturing the next generation of our world. It is indeed one of the hardest but also the most rewarding responsibility a mom can have!


I hope that the stories of these amazing mothers inspire you to appreciate eve. Remember, if you have yet to spend time with your mom or ask them how they are, spend some quality time with them this Mother’s Day.

What you need to know about the Islamic holy month 🕌

How to be a supportive flatmate during Ramadan

Some of us may notice that our Muslim flatmates, friends or colleagues are not going for their lunch break the past week and have been skipping water and snacks! That’s because it’s been more than a week since the start of Ramadan, or the Islamic holy month where Muslims around the world fast from dawn to dusk. 


In this article, I’ll share with you what you need to know about Ramadan and how you can be a supportive flatmate or friend!


Don’t be alarmed if your flatmate is cooking at 4 in the morning


If you hear someone cooking in the kitchen as early as 4 or 5am, don’t be surprised. Your flatmate is most probably getting their pre-dawn meal ready, or also known as ‘Suhur’.


As Muslims are refrained from eating and drinking during the day, they get up super early to supplement themselves with the energy that they need throughout the day!


Feel free to join them for their pre-dawn meal if you’re still awake. I’m pretty sure they’d enjoy the company and you’d have a nice late supper too! It’s a win-win situation for both! 😀


Just because it’s the fasting month, doesn’t mean you’re gonna lose your lunch buddy forever! While they might not be able to join you for lunch, you can always invite your Muslim flatmates or friends for dinner or iftar, the time when your Muslim friends can finally eat.


This year, the sunset timings during Ramadan are between 7.07pm and 7.11pm, so do make sure you head to the eatery just in time for iftar. Not too early nor too late!

When breaking fast with your Muslim flatmates or friends, do start the meal with a delicious date. Muslims around the world still uphold this tradition which was carried out by their prophet.


Dates are the fruit of the date palm tree, which tastes quite sweet. Dates are also high in some important nutrients and have a variety of advantages and uses.


Muslims eat dates in odd quantities like 1, 3, 5 and so on. You can do that too!


Don’t be shocked if you see any of your Muslim colleagues taking a sip of water or even snacking in the middle of the day during Ramadan. 


While fasting during the holy month is mandatory for most Muslims, not all Muslims are able to partake in fasting.


Some of the reasons could be their health or even the time of the month for ladies. These individuals are exempted from fasting!


Instead of asking your Muslim flatmates out for a run in the evening immediately after work hours, why not ask them for a run later at night? 🏃


Do take note that they are also not allowed to drink water while they fast, and we don’t want to make them breathless and thirsty after a run, right?


Plus, when you run at night, it’s also much cooler and you can see beautiful night lights!


Alternatively, you can also invite them for a less arduous physical exercise such as a short yoga session in the afternoon to take a short break from all the work!


The first day of Eid falls on the 13th of May this year, which falls on a Thursday. This marks the end of Ramadan.


Don’t forget to wish your Muslim flatmates or friends ‘Eid Mubarak’ once the fasting month is over. In Arabic, Eid means celebration and Mubarak means blessings.


In Singapore, Eid is commonly known as Hari Raya which literally translates to ‘Day of Celebration’!

Muslims around the globe would go to the mosque to pray early in the morning and visit their loved ones in the day and seek forgiveness from one another for their wrongdoings.


This day could be a good start for you to seek forgiveness or be kind to your flatmates if there has been some misunderstanding between the two of you, to let bygones be bygones and start anew!


Psst. Since Eid falls on a Thursday, which is a public holiday in Singapore, you can enjoy a long weekend if you apply for leave on Friday! 😜

Located in a shophouse, this quaint Thai restaurant opposite Sultan Mosque will certainly remind you of the traditional eateries in Thailand!

If you miss Japanese food, drinks and snacks, Don Don Donki is the place you should head to!


Instant bento, soba, sashimi, cute Japanese snacks, drinks, desserts, you name it! Everything is in a giant store! 🍱


With eight outlets island-wide, namely at JEM, JCube, City Square Mall, 100am, Orchard Central,  Square 2,  Clarke Quay Central and Harbourfront Centre, your nearest Don Don Donki is just a few minutes away! I can promise you that you’ll never walk empty-handed from this huge supermarket even when you walked in with just the intention of ‘looking around’!  🤣


It’s so good that even a Japanese YouTuber who is residing in Singapore, Ghib Ojisan, recommends it!

Opened in January 2019, Kafe Utu is Singapore’s original African cafe with food from the different countries in Africa. Even before tasting the unique flavours of Africa, your eyes probably would have feasted on the intricate interior and decoration of this 3-storey cafe!


On the first floor, you’ll be sure to spot the 8-metre banquette seat. Fun fact: it’s made from a single tree! 🌳


If you’re looking for a new spot to drink, head over to their bar & terrace for an African cocktail experience!

This restaurant is perfect for you if adhere to strict dietary preferences such as gluten-free or vegan!


According to their website, Pano Kato means ‘upstairs downstairs’ in Greek, referring to its sister restaurant, AnLi’s Store and Bistro located upper floor while Pano Kato is just below!


When you’re done with your delicious spanakopita, Maria’s moussaka or baklava, visit the retail store that’s linked to the restaurant where you can find decor items that are being used in the restaurant!

Nobody can resist a good BBQ, right! 🍖


Not only is I’m Kim Korean BBQ is affordable, but their signature volcano chicken is also to die for! Other menus include signature Korean chicken wings and spicy pork collar!


Only 5 minutes away from Dhoby Ghaut MRT, this restaurant which is located at School of The Arts (SOTA), is hard to miss with its huge bright signage.

Remember to make your reservations earlier to avoid disappointment! And to our Muslim friends, don’t worry. You can always visit their halal restaurant called Captain Kim Korean BBQ & Hotpot located in the East!

We’ve all heard grilled chicken, grilled fish and even grilled vegetables before, but what about grilled… rice?


Yes, that sounds a little strange but I can ensure you that once you’ve tasted it, you’ll want to revisit again!


Bara Food serves its authentic Indonesian dishes with rice that has been wrapped in banana leaf, grilled till perfection.


My personal favourite is the Ayam Goreng Serundeng - Javanese style fried chicken topped with ‘Serundeng’, mixed fried Indonesian herbs and spices!


For those of you working in the CBD area, do drop by this restaurant located few minutes away from Tanjong Pagar MRT!

Rewatch your favourite Pixar movies on Disney+ and spot as many Easter eggs you can find! Be it Hidden Mickey logos or other characters from other Disney shows, you’ll certainly have fun trying to beat each other’s points.


Ok, listen up. Cooking an egg might be a walk in the park for most of you, and you must be wondering why is ‘cooking an egg’ even an option in this list.


But do you know that there are actually more than a hundred different ways to cook eggs? Isn’t that eggs-traordinary?!


We have sunny side up, scrambled, boiled, poached, omelette, half-boiled and the list goes on. Why not learn a new method of cooking an egg this weekend? Who knows, what could be your next favourite type of egg? 


Head down to Jurong Bird Park this weekend to look at cute little eggs in the Breeding and Research Centre and learn about the process of breeding these little birds in the oldest wildlife park in Singapore!
